Introduction

Microneedling—also known as “Collagen Induction Therapy”, is a popular, non-invasive skincare treatment that has captured the interest of skincare professionals and celebrities alike. At Eos Skin and Laser Clinic, we’ve seen how microneedling helps our clients achieve greatly improved, radiant, and healthy skin, which is why we’re thrilled to share everything you need to know about this treatment.

Microneedling is prized for its ability to improve skin texturereduce scarring, and boost overall skin health. We’ll go over exactly what happens during microneedling, and why it has become one of the more sought after treatments at our Portland clinic.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling uses a device with tiny, sterile needles that create micro-punctures on the skin’s surface. These controlled punctures are essential for triggering the body’s healing process.

The skin responds by producing more collagen and elastin—proteins that are crucial for firm, smooth, and youthful skin.

Over time, these proteins break down, causing wrinkles and skin laxity. Microneedling essentially “reawakens” the body’s ability to produce these proteins, offering rejuvenation from the inside out.

What Happens During the Healing Process?

The effects of microneedling unfold in three main phases:

  1. Inflammation: The skin’s initial response is inflammation, which increases blood flow and brings nutrients to the area to start the repair process.

  2. Proliferation: In this phase, new skin cells are created to replace old, damaged cells. Collagen and elastin production intensifies, filling in fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.

  3. Remodeling: Over the following weeks, newly formed collagen strengthens the skin’s structure, resulting in a smootherfirmer, and more youthful appearance.

Who Can Benefit?

One of the biggest appeals of microneedling is its versatility. This treatment is suitable for most skin types and can target various skin concerns including:

  • acne scars

  • stretch marks

  • hyperpigmentation

  • enlarged pores
